Woman hit by train in Beltsville

BELTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Fire officials say a woman was struck by a freight train in Beltsville on Wednesday.

According to fire spokesperson Mark Brady, she was crossing the tracks in the 5100 block of Sycamore Road in Beltsville at 11:45 a.m. when she fell. A police spokesperson says she was with her husband when she tripped and fell. Her husband was not hurt, say police.

The woman, who is not being identified at this time, was treated by paramedics for her traumatic injuries, says Brady. She was then transported to a trauma center.

Brady says the woman is in critical condition.

CSX officials say that the train was moving from Greenville, N.J. to Jacksonville, Fla., and had two locomotives and 69 freight cars.

Officials with CSX say they are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.
