Uber driver with Va. plates wanted for sexual assault in Hyattsville

An Uber driver is wanted in Prince George's County. Detectives say he committed a sex offense while driving for the ride-sharing service.

HYATTSVILLE, MD. (WUSA9) - Police are searching for an Uber driver with Virginia plates accused of a sexual offense in the Hyattsville area. 

Ergun Gunes, 44, is wanted in connection with a sexual offense that happened on June 26 at 11 p.m. in the area of Queens Chapel Road and Hamilton Street, the City of Hyattsville Police Department said. 

Gunes was working as an Uber driver at the time of the incident. His vehicle is described as a dark-colored 2015 Toyota RAV4 with Virginia registration plates VTE8919. 

Police said Gunes is no longer an active Uber driver. He has an open warrant through the Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff.
