Toddler abducted by father located safely

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Metro official says the toddler abducted by his father Tuesday night at a Metro station has been recovered safely and the father is in custody.

Employees at the Maxway discount store in Landover, Md. recognized 29-year-old Darrel Keith Parker's photo on the tv news as the man who had just left the store with the toddler. They called police.

When Prince George's County police attempted to arrest Parker, he fled, Stessel said. He was caught after a brief pursuit and his 15-month-old child is safe.

Police said Parker snatched the toddler from her mother's arms at the Southern Avenue Metro station around 7:45 p.m.Tuesday.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Parker Wednesday, according to officials. His picture was being shown on kiosk screens at the southern end of the Green line, an area he is known to frequent.

Officials said the case had not reached the criteria for issuing an Amber Alert.
