Suspects shot teens multiple times upon approach

WUSA9's Delia Goncalves breaks down what happened on the night two teens were shot on a quiet street.

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, MD (WUSA9) - Police said 18-year-old Artem Ziberov and 17-year-old Shadi Naijair were shot multiple times at a distance and at close range.

Investigators said the suspects shot at the victims as they approached the car based on the evidence inside the vehicle and outside on the street.

We don’t know why the teens parked in the Montgomery Village neighborhood miles from their home, but a neighbor told us when he returned home from a walk at 9:30 Monday night the car was not there.

Just before 10:30 p.m., the victim’s car was attacked. The engine was running, the headlights were on when the suspects unloaded into the vehicle. Homes were struck by stray bullets and casings littered the ground; even the Police chief said the amount of shell casings were far more than the typical shooting.

A neighbor captured the audio of the crime on his home surveillance system. The barrage of gunshots took just seven seconds. Two seconds later you can hear a car engine.

After listening to the audio with neighbors, it appears the suspects were not familiar with the neighborhood because drove straight to the dead end. The driver was forced to circle the cul-de-sac before driving out of the area.

In all, the attack took less than 30 seconds. Neighbors said they heard no arguing or suspicious noises prior to the shooting and after the shooting they say the neighborhood fell silent.
