Suspect wanted in Md. 3-year-old girl's murder

LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police have charged a suspect in connection with the murder a three-year-old girl who was shot Sunday afternoon in Landover, Md., Prince George's County Fire officials said.

The shooting around happened around 1:45 p.m. in the 6900 block of Forest Terrace, authorities said. She was taken to the hospital with a critical gunshot wound around 2 p.m., according to authorities.

Based off of the preliminary investigation, there was an argument going on between two men, police said. One of the men shot into the home several times and hit the child, police said. The girl was not the target, according to police.

Prince George's County police identified the victim as Knijah Amore Bibb of Harvard Street in Northwest Washington. According to the child's grandmother the girl was at a cousin's house being watched and visiting with other children. The girl's two older brothers were also there, says the grandmother.

The grandmother tells us that the suspect and cousin had an argument over clothing. She says the suspect claimed the clothes that the cousin was wearing belonged to him.

"He knew there were children in the house," the grandmother claimed.

She said the girl was running out of a room to a hallway when she was hit by gunfire. The suspect ran away after the shooting, authorities said.

The suspect has now been identified as 25-year-old Davon Antwan Wallace. He is charged with first degree murder. Police tell us that he was an acquaintance of a resident in the home where the shooting took place. He lives nearby the home.

Wallace has a long criminal history, going back to 2007. Offenses range from traffic offenses and drug charges to burglary and dog fighting.

The girl was set to turn four years old in September.
