Suspect surrenders after 6 hour barricade

ANNE ARUNDEL (WUSA9) -- After a six hour standoff, police now have a suspect in custody.

At about 12:51p.m. Anne Arundel County police were dispatched for a report of an armed robbery suspect who had barricaded himself in a residence, police reported.

According to police the suspect had barricaded himself in his grandparents house, and when authorities arrived on the scene he pointed a rifle at one of the officers before ducking back into the home.

Many of the streets in the surrounding neighborhood were shut down while authorities dealt with the situation, police said.

According to police after several hours of negotiations the suspect peacefully surrendered at 6:50 p.m.

The suspect was take to the hospital and charges are pending, police said.
