Residents exchange gunfire with intruders leaving 1 dead

residents of a Brandywine home exchanged gunfire with intruders, leaving one suspect dead and the other on the run.

BRANDYWINE, MD. (WUSA9) - One suspect is dead and another is on the run after they exchanged gunfire with residents of a home in a Brandywine neighborhood in Prince George’s County Saturday, police said.

Police responded to the home around 12:30 p.m. after they say the two suspects broke into a home in the 12600 block of Lusbys Lane. That is when the intruders opened fire, shooting one of the home's tenants.

The tenant suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

"[It's] crazy," a resident of the home, who did not want to be identified, said. "Coming home to a dead body in your basement. I didn't see his face but I saw him, like the body. He had a mask on.”

The house hosted officers and police tape marked the scene well into Saturday evening, leaving at least some of the home’s residents and pets on the outside looking in for hours.

“I’m honestly not sure [why this would have happened]," the resident said. "I don’t know if it was somebody we know or what."

A spokesperson with the Prince George's County Police Department says they believe the house was targeted.

As for that second suspect, who remains at large, police do not have any lookout information to share at this time.

The investigation continues.
