Police: Man hid money in ceiling to cover up robbery

BROOKLYN PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man was arrested Monday after he lied to police to try to cover up his own robbery, Anne Arundel County police say.

At about 11:55 a.m., police responded to the Metro PCS store located in the 5600 block of Ritchie Highway for a report of an armed robbery.

Bhaumin Bhrugesh Vyas, 26, of Clarksville told police that two suspects entered the business, displayed a handgun, and then fled with stolen property.

According to police, responding officers noticed the clerk with a ladder. Further inspection of the building revealed that the "stolen" money was actually hidden in the ceiling.

Vyas admitted to making a false police report to cover up the theft that he committed.

Vyas was arrested and is being charged with making a false report and theft over $500.
