Police identify elderly couple in murder-suicide in Md.

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County police have identified the couple who were apparently killed in a murder suicide on Wednesday.

Police say 72-year-old Virginia Velasco and 72-year-old Amando Velasco, of the 5500 block of Winston Street in Temple Hills, died on Wednesday.

Officers were called to the married couple's home for a welfare check at approximately 2 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered Virginia Velasco and Amando Velasco, each suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. They were pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say their preliminary investigation suggests Amando Velasco shot and killed his wife, then took his own life. A gun was recovered on the scene.

Detectives are working to establish a timeline and motive in this case, say police.
