PD: 1 person dead in Md. 2 vehicle collision

HUGHESVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Maryland State Police Department is investigating a two vehicle collision that happened in Hughesville, Md. Wednesday afternoon and left one person dead.

Authorities said troopers responded to the report of an accident at 3:32 p.m. to the area of Leonardtown Rd at Herbet Rd.

The investigation shows that a 2005 Pontiac G8 was going southbound MD Rt 5 in lane 1 and tried to make a left turn onto Herbert Road at a high speed, authorities said. The vehicle lost control and ended up going through the grassy median and ended up in the northbound lanes of Leonardtown Rd.

Authorities said, the second vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Ram, was going northbound on Rt 5 in the second lane and crashed into the passenger side of the other vehicle.

Police said the driver of the Pontiac, James Hunter, Rowley Jr. 24, of Mechanicsville, Md. was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, John Raymond Sellner,72, of Brandywine,Md. was taken to Prince George's Hospital.

Police said, the investigation shows that Sellner was under the influence of alcohol. His charges are pending for DUI, police said. Alcohol however is not considered to be a contributing factor in the crash, authorities said.
