Md. police investigate death of man found in storm drain

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a 54-year-old man from Caroll County, Md., who was found Thursday morning in a storm drain close to a shopping mall in Westminster, Md.

Police said the victim has been identified as Robert, L. Hawk, 54, of Sykesville. According to authorities, Hawk was found dead at the scene.

Authorities responded to the 500 block of Baltimore Blvd, in Westminster Thursday at 11 a.m. for the report of a found body in a storm drain between businesses along Rt. 140.

According to authorities, the man had no signs of obvious trauma. Police believe he crawled about four feet into the drainage pipe. Authorities said a shirt was folded next to him.

Authorities learned that Hawk had been seen walking around in the vicinity unsteadily. Police said the shopping mall gave him a no trespassing order on Tuesday.

Hawk's gray Dodge Ram extended cab was found in the parking lot of the shopping center, police said.

The man's body was taken to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing.
