Md. man walking in road fatally struck by car, police say

INDIAN HEAD, MD. (WUSA9) - A man is dead after he was walking in the road and hit by a car in Indian Head late Thursday night, Maryland State police said. Authorities believe the man may have been drinking.  

The crash happened around 9:57 p.m. on MD Rt. 225 west of MD Rt. 224. The investigation shows that a black 2005 Cadillac STS, being driven by a 36-year-old Waldorf woman was going westbound on MD Route 225 when she hit the pedestrian. 

Twenty-six-year-old Demonte Johnson, of Indian Head was walking the westbound lane of MD Route 225. Police said he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash and the area was not lit well. Johnson died at the scene of the crash.  

Police believe alcohol may have been one of the reasons why he was walking in the road.
