MD man arrested for sexually assaulting of teen girl, deputies say

A 54-year-old man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Maryland, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Philip Charles Edwards Jr., of Piney Point was arrested after deputies were alerted of a possible sexual assault that happened in 2016.

According to authorities, the assault happened after the suspect met the victim. They said Edwards propositioned the girl and then engaged in a sexual act against her will.

A grand jury issued a warrant for Edwards’ arrest on November 1.  He was arrested Friday and taken into custody. 

Edwards is charged with second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, sexual solicitation of a minor and second-degree assault. 

He is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center to await a bond review.
