Maryland power outages from storm below 30,000

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Utilities are making steady progress in restoring power to tens of thousands of Mid-Atlantic homes, but one utility says some Maryland residents will be in the dark until Saturday.

Fewer than 30,000 Maryland homes and businesses remain without power early Friday, mostly in Frederick, Carroll and Baltimore counties. Only a handful of outages are left in northern Delaware. That's down from a peak above 150,000 customers without power on Wednesday.

Potomac Edison has about 13,000 of the Maryland outages. Spokesman Todd Meyers says most will be restored by late Friday, but scattered outages will remain Saturday.

Baltimore Gas and Electric still has approximately 16,000 outages early Friday.

Both companies have brought in hundreds of out-of-state workers to repair damage caused by an ice storm Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
