PRINCE FREDERICK, MD. (WUSA9) - A 62-year-old man is dead after crashing his golf cart and then being hit by several cars on the side of the road in Prince Frederick late Tuesday night, Calvert County Sheriff's Office said.
The investigation shows that John Lee Schneider, 62, of Huntingtown, Md. drove his golf cart into the intersection of MD Route 4 and Lower Marlboro Road in an attempt to go northbound on Maryland Route 4. Schneider hit the curb and was then ejected from the car onto the road.
Officials said he was then hit by three cars going northbound on Maryland Route 4. Two of the cars stayed at the scene. The third car left the scene, but was found by a patrol deputy nearby.
According to authorities all drivers are taking part in the investigation.
Schneider was pronounced dead at the scene, officials stated.
Officials believe the lighting conditions in the area may have caused the crash. Additionally, Schneider was wearing dark clothing and may have been intoxicated.
The crash remains under investigation.
