Man arrested after chasing pedestrian with machete

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Rockville police arrested Jose Arevalo, 45, of Rockville, Maryland last Thursday after he chased a man with a machete.

Police reported that Arevalo, who was driving a white Ford truck on England Terrace, honked at a pedestrian who was walking in the street. This incident escalated to a verbal altercation, which then became physical.

Arevalo chased and slashed at the pedestrian with a machete. The pedestrian responded by producing a small pocket knife and kicking at Arevalo, according to police.

Arevalo was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault, one count of reckless endangerment, and one count of using a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. He is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
