Helicopter medevacs teen from moving cruise ship

New video shows a helicopter as it medevaced a teenager from a moving cruise ship several hundred miles off the Eastern Shore coast.

OCEAN CITY, MD (WUSA9) - New video shows a helicopter as it medevaced a teenager from a moving cruise ship several hundred miles off the Eastern Shore coast.

The Coast Guard released the video on Tuesday of the incident that happened back on Jan. 4.

A teenager on board the Norwegian Breakaway reported having appendicitis-like symptoms and needed emergency care, so a Coast Guard helicopter came to the rescue.

Video shows an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter hovering over the bow of the cruise ship while it was still sailing about 430 miles off Ocean City, Md. Crews lowered a device onto the deck for the teen to climb into. They lowered it down one more time so his grandmother could go with him.

Crews flew the teen and his grandmother to a hospital in Norfolk, Va.
