Harsh words at Anne Arundel Co. meeting over hate

Harsh words were exchanged at an Anne Arundel County meeting over hate.

ANNE ARUNDEL CO., MD (WUSA9) - There was an emotional confrontation over hate Monday night at an Anne Arundel County Council meeting.

The council chairman threatened to cut off debate as civil rights leaders began to question council member Michael Peroutka's past ties to a southern nationalist hate group.

The conflict happened as the council considered a resolution condemning acts of hate in the wake of the murder of 2LT Richard Collins at the University of Maryland.

The suspect is an Anne Arundel County man with alleged ties to a hate group.

The council eventually voted unanimously for the resolution after it was amended to specifically condemn white supremacy.

Peroutka voted for the amendment.
