Driver in crash had warrants for his arrest

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- A driver injured in a crash on Thursday morning had outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to authorities with The Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack.

Authorities say they received a call at approximately 3:59 a.m. regarding a collision on I-81 southbound at the 2.5 mile marker. Troopers found a Subaru Legacy had struck the side of a southbound tractor trailer twice. It then bounced off the guardrail before slamming into the rear of the tractor trailer, according to authorities.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and was able to remove his truck from the scene with only moderate damage, say authorities.

The Subaru driver, 23-year-old William Farhney Umbaugh of Falling Waters, West Virginia, had received minor injuries. He was transported to Meritus Medical Center, say authorities. Authorities tell us that upon his hospital release he was taken into custody because he had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Authorities tell us they continue to investigate the incident.
