Brothers charged in 2013 Anne Arundel Co. homicide

ODENTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police in Anne Arundel County say they've arrested two people for the December 2013 killing of a 19-year-old in Odenton, Md.

Bashunn Christopher Phillips, 20, of 2542 Maytime Drive in Gambrills, Md., is charged with first degree murder in the death of Shar-Ron Charles Mason. Tymaine Kenard Phillips, 17, of the same address, is charged with carrying a handgun and accessory after the fact.

Police say they determined Bashunn Phillips and Mason knew each other. During October of 2013, an issue developed where the two were involved in an altercation, and as a result, Bashunn Phillips was charged and awaiting a court date.

The murder of Mason occurred within the weeks before the case was supposed to go to trial, police say. After the murder, evidence was obtained in which Tymaine Phillips, Bashunn's brother, attempted to get evidence in the case from law enforcement officials, police say.

Mason was found suffering from gunshot wounds on December 10, 2013 at his home in the 1300 block of Chapelview Drive. He died at the scene.

The brothers were arrested on Friday, July 18. Bashunn Phillips also faces charges of second degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and carrying a handgun.
