Bicyclist dragged by vehicle in Md. collision

EDGEWATER, Md. (WUSA9) -- A bicyclist is in the hospital after being struck by a car in Edgewater on Wednesday afternoon.

Anne Arundel County Police officers responded to Central Avenue and Selby Boulevard at approximately 4:39 p.m. for a reported collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. They found 51-year-old Anthony Lee Williams of Edgewater suffering from serious injuries.

According to police, Williams was riding his bike westbound on Central Avenue just west of Winding Road towards Selby Boulevard. Williams entered the travel portion of the roadway towards the eastbound lanes of Central Avenue when the driver of a pickup truck, 53-year-old Coleman Lawson of Harwood, struck him, say police. Williams was dragged several feet until the vehicle came to a rest in the eastbound lane of Central Avenue.

Williams was transported via helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. Police say he is listed in "stable condition."
