Beloved school bus driver retires after 20 years

Montgomery County celebrated a beloved bus driver for his retirement.

DERWOOD, MD (WUSA9) - A Montgomery County school bus driver has retired after spending 20 years behind the wheel.

Melvin Frizzle—known as Mr. Melvin to his kids—stepped off the yellow school bus for the last time Friday afternoon to a cheering crowd of parents, students, and school alumni. He had just dropped off his last kids from Sequoyah Elementary.

“I loved all my kids, every last one of them, even though some of them were a little difficult,” admitted Mr. Melvin.

But he warned everyone—not just his kids—to stay safe and be on their best behavior.

“I’ll still be here. I’ll be riding though the neighborhood, gang. So be on your best behavior. You never know. I won’t be in that yellow bus, but I’ll be watching.
