ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are investigating a four-car crash that happened Thursday morning along College Parkway just before Shore Acres Drive.
The Anne Arundel Police Department said a car going east on College Parkway approaching Shore Acres Drive suddenly drifted across the centerline, ending up in the westbound lane.
Police said, car number one then hit the side of car number two in the left rear wheel area.
The car number two then rotated about 180 degrees and slid into the westbound lane.
After car number one hit car number two, car number one went on to hit the third card, about 100 feet east of the initial collision, police said.
Before the third car was hit, police said the car attempted to swerve to the right to avoid getting hit by the first car, however was not able to do so.
As a result of this impact, the first car came to a rest, sitting across the westbound lane of College Parkway. The first car was then hit by the fourth car. Driver number four, police said, had locked up the vehicle's brakes to try and avoid crashing.
The driver of the second vehicle, Chelsea Anne Zeni, 21, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, police said.
The driver of the third vehicle, Zahid Ali Syed, 29, was flown to Shock Trauma with serious injuries.
Police do not know whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the cause of this crash. Police also said, they do not know if excessive speed was a factor yet.
There is evidence that the driver of the first car, Patricia Ann Krzeminski, 77, may have suffered from some type of medical condition, which caused her to loose control of the car, police added.
Police said the driver of the fourth car, Christopher Gene Shelby, 42, was not injured.
Krzeminski has fatal injuries, according to police.
