5 vehicle crash in Md. leaves 1 injured

ELLICOTT CITY, MD. (WUSA9) - Police are investigating a five-vehicle crash in Ellicott City that left one man injured Monday.

At around 12:14 p.m. Monday, police responded to a crash near Baltimore National Pike and Pine Orchard Lane.

According to police, the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta struck two vehicles on Pine Orchard Lane and then entered the intersection at Baltimore National Pike. The Volkswagen was then hit by two more cars. 

Robert Gambrell, 38, of Ellicott City, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries. He was the only person in the car, and no other drivers or passengers were injured, according to Howard County police.

This investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
