4 injured in crash on I-81

HAGERSTOWN Md. (WUSA) --Maryland State Police responded to a two-vehicle collision Tuesday that resulted in the shutting down of a highway lane.

Police say a 2009 Kia Rio being operated by Carmen Winiarski, 54, of Martinsburg, W. Va. was attempting to merge onto I-81 South from the MD 58 ramp and was struck from behind by a 2006 Ford E-350 Van being operated by Anastasia D. Alexander, 43, of Falling Water, W. Va.

Both drivers and two passengers from Alexander's vehicle were brought to Meritus Medical Center for minor injuries.

One lane of I-81 South was shut down for about 30 minutes during the investigation and Alexander was charged with negligent driving, police say.

Neither alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, police say.
