2 Md. women shoplift and pepper spray store employees

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County Police said they arrested two Md. women Tuesday, in connection with shoplifting and pepper spraying employees while fleeing the store in Annapolis, Md.

Police said they responded to a Safeway grocery store located at 2635 Housley Rd. around 9:31 a.m.

Authorities said, the store managers said they had both been pepper sprayed by the two women. According to authorities, the two women went into the Safeway and put several DVDs into their bags.

The managers went up to the two women when they tried to leave the store without paying for the DVDs. One of the women pushed past the employees and the other woman pepper sprayed the two managers, police said.

The two suspects fled the scene in a silver Dodge vehicle. Authorities said, the fire department tried to treat the store employees who had been sprayed, however they refused medical treatment.

Police were able to arrest both of the women after making a traffic stop and then a short foot pursuit, authorities said.

According to Anne Arundel County Police, they stole $260 worth of DVDs. Police found the DVDs and returned them to the store.

Martina Christine Queen, 29, of Crofton, Md. was arrested and charged with theft, assault, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding and false statement to police. According to authorities, Queen was also wanted for a similar crime in the past.

Amber Ann Abrams, 28, of Crofton, was also arrested and charged with theft and driving on a suspended driver's license.
