FORESTVILLE, MD. (WUSA9) - Two Maryland troopers crashed late Wednesday night while searching for an impaired driver in Prince George's County.
Maryland State police said the troopers were injured while responding to a call for an impaired driver going southbound in the northbound lanes of Rt. 4. According to authorities the troopers crashed with each other. Police said the troopers were following each other in separate patrol vehicles, while looking for the driver.
The investigation shows that Trooper Warren Thompson hit the back of Trooper Kamil Kozoil's car in the area of southbound Rt. 4, just south of Green Landing Road. Trooper Kozoil's car then traveled across the median and down an embankment. Nobody else was involved in the crash.
Trooper Kozoil was taken to Prince George's County Hospital and Trooper Thompson was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. They are both expected to survive.
According to authorities the driver of the car the troopers were trying to find was stopped by a Maryland Natural Resources police officer. The driver was arrested for DUI.
The investigation remains ongoing.
