2 Md. teens arrested for vehicle theft

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Takoma Park Police Department arrested two teens in connection with vehicle theft.

Police said they arrested Ian Zapata, 19, of Washington, D.C. and a 17-year-old male from Queens Chapel in Maryland. Both of them were arrested for stealing a vehicle, and unauthorized use of a vehicle and theft, police said.

On Tuesday afternoon, authorities responded to the 6600 block of Eastern Avenue for the report of four suspicious males, police said.

According to authorities the suspects were seen stealing a black Vortex scooter. Deputies spotted two suspects involved in the incident, upon their arrival.

After a car chase, followed by a foot pursuit, deputies were able to arrest the two teens in the unit block of Elm Avenue.

Police said damage had been done to the ignition of the Jeep they were operating.

Metropolitan Police arrested a third person involved in the incident. Takoma Park Police have filed for a warrant for his arrest, authorities said.

Police said Zapata was arrested and charged. He was released to the custody of a parent.
