GLENMONT, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 14-year-old girl is dead after drowning in a community pool in Glenmont Sunday afternoon. It happened at the Oakfield Apartments off of Georgian Woods Place.
Police say the girl was found in five feet of water at the pool where she and her family lived. Although her name has not officially been released by Montgomery County Police, the girl's father spoke to WUSA9 about the tragedy.
"I don't know what to say, I'm feeling very, very bad," says Tamo. It was a father's worst nightmare, instead of spending Father's Day with his little girl, Honore Tamo, is now grieving the loss of his daughter, Grace. "(She was) very beautiful, very beautiful. I'm alone now. Imagine how I am feeling now, I am feeling so bad," says Tamo.
Tamo says he and his family had just moved to the apartment complex. "She's learning how to swim, she worked hard especially yesterday, and she worked hard with the life guard. She was very excited when she saw the pool here," says Tamo.
Police say a lifeguard spotted the girl and tried to give her CPR. Once rescue crews arrived they took the victim to Holy Cross Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
"Now I don't have any reason, my life is finished. It's like it is tough for me, I lost a part of myself," says Tamo. "Sometimes I want to stop everything and go back home to Cameroon. I hope I will have the energy to continue."
Police say the official cause of death is pending and the investigation continues.
