Va. police investigate mosque vandalism

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Prince William County Police Department responded to the report of a vandalized mosque in Manassas on Tuesday, after a Muslim civil rights group asked authorities to do so.

Authorities responded to the mosque located at 12950 Center Entrance Dr. in Manassas, Va. Tuesday afternoon.

A security guard at the mosque was the first person to notice the vandalism, police said. The incident happened sometime between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The exterior walls, the windows and the doors of the building were all spray painted with orange spray paint, authorities said. An outer glass pane on the back side of the door was also damaged, authorities said.

It has not been determined as of yet whether this was a hate crime, police said.

Police have no lookouts.
