Man arrested in Va. for theft and property destruction

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police arrested a Md. man Saturday morning in connection with theft and property destruction. and property destruction in Manassas.

Police said deputies were dispatched to Pest Management Services located at 8735 Quarry Rd. for a report of suspicious activity and potential theft in progress.

According to authorities, officers found a man who matched the description given by the caller and confronted him.

The suspect then ran and left a duffle bag behind, authorities said. Officers were able to find him hiding nearby and arrested him without incident, police said.

Deputies found a knife, marijuana, and 40 pounds of copper piping that matched the size of damaged pipes found on seven nearby air conditioning units, authorities said.

The suspect has been identified as Andrew Hembry, 50, of 9712 Aspen Pl. Hembry was charged with two counts of theft, two counts of destruction of property, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of possession of marijuana.

Authorities said he is being held without bond and has a pending court date of April 15, 2014.
