Man killed in Glen Burnie crash

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 54-year-old man is dead after a crash in Glen Burnie Saturday morning, Anne Arundel County police said.

The crash happened around 9:37 a.m. on Ritchie Highway close to 5th Ave in SE in Glen Burnie.

Witnesses said they saw the Expedition towing a trailer southbound when it began to stop in the travel lane.

Police said the Expedition started to accelerate and went into the grass median where it hit two small trees and roll onto its roof.

The driver of the vehicle, Britt Edward Mitchell, 56, of Glen Burnie was killed in the crash.

Police said the preliminary cause of the crash seems to be failing to stay right of center. Authorities do say they believe the driver may have had a medical emergency before the crash.

There were no signs of alcohol or drugs being used.

The investigation remains ongoing.
