Man injured after being hit by car in Wheaton

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man has life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car in the Wheaton area Thursday evening, Montgomery County police said. 

The crash happened around 7:28 p.m. in the area of Georgia Avenue and Dawson Avenue when a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban was going south on Georgia Avenue, authorities said. 

A man who was not in a crosswalk was crossing Georgia Avenue and going in the direction of Dawson Avenue when he was hit. 

Police said the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities said the alcohol use on the part of the pedestrian is one of the factors in the crash. 

The driver of the Suburban was not hurt.
