Man critically injured in Arlington house fire

ARLINGTON, VA. (WUSA9) - A man is in critical condition after being rescued from his burning home early Wednesday morning.

Captain Ben O'Bryant, spokesman for the Arlington County Fire Department, says crews were called to a structure fire in the 500 block of N. Ivy St. just before 1:00 a.m.  Once crews arrived on the scene they found heavy fire coming from the front of the home.

Two men who escaped the blaze told the firefighters a third occupant was still inside one of the bedrooms.  Rescuers were able to lift a ladder to the bedroom window and found the man unconscious inside the room.  Firefighters were able to pull him out of the home through the window.

The victim has been transported to Medstar where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.  The other residents were not injured.  One occupant was not home at the time, so a total of four men have been displaced by the blaze.

The fire is now out, and an investigation is underway.
