Man arrested in Va. sexual assault of 19-year-old woman

GAINESVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Prince William County Police Department has arrested a man who was wanted in a sexual assault that happened in the area of the Gainesville Square Shopping Center on August 27, involving a 19-year-old woman.

The assault happened between 9:45 p.m. and 10 p.m. when the victim was walking in the area of Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Gainesville Square Shopping Center. According to authorities, the suspect approached her from behind and pushed her down an embankment.

He sexually assaulted her. Police said she was able to fight him off after several minutes of struggling. A passerby helped her out after she had climbed out of the embankment, police said.

The suspect was last seen running into the woods close to Lee Highway, police said.

Police arrested 23-year-old Juan Carlos Lopez Ramirez, also known as "Noah", at a restaurant Saturday afternoon, authorities said. He has been charged with aggravated sexual battery and abduction with intent to defile. He is being held without bond.
