Man arrested for bank robbery in Olney

OLNEY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police have arrested a 29-year-old man for a bank robbery in Olney on February 20.

According to Montgomery County police, Michael Williamson of Olney, was charged with one count of armed robbery for the incident at the Capital One bank at 18104 Town Center Drive.

Police say the robber entered the bank and passed a note to the teller. The note demanded money and implied that he had a gun. The robber left with cash.

A bank surveillance photograph of the suspect was provided to officers, say police, and an officer contacted investigators and identified the suspect as Williamson.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. Thursday, officers in downtown Wheaton area arrested a suspect, identified as Williamson, for possession of marijuana. During a search incident to arrest, officers found cash in Williamson's pants pocket, which was later determined to be from the bank robbery, according to police. A knit cap on Williamson was similar to the cap worn by the suspect in the bank robbery, say police.

Police say Williamson admitted to committing the bank robbery during questioning.

He was taken to jail and is being held on $75,000 bond.
