Police seek witnesses after teen fatally shot in Lorton

A teenager is dead after being shot overnight in Lorton.

LORTON, VA. (WUSA9) - Police in Fairfax County are investigating the fatal shooting of a teen in a townhome community in Lorton Thursday morning.

Around 10:36 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to 9700 block of Hagel Circle after reports of the sound of shots fired, according to Officer Don Godhardt a spokesman for the Fairfax County Police Department.

Once police arrived at the scene, they found a 17-year-old boy lying on a sidewalk of the Terrace Townhomes of Gunston, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim is identified as 17-year-old Maurice Anderson Berger, of Lorton. School officials told WUSA9's Peggy Fox that Berger attended Bryant Alternative High School.

Officer Godhardt said there are initial reports of a vehicle seen leaving the scene. At this time investigators are not sure if the vehicle is connected to the crime and so far there is no description available.

Crime scene investigators have responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation.
