Seattle growers compete in Great Pumpkin Weigh-off

Farmers brought their giant pumpkins to the Elysian Brewery in the Georgetown neighborhood today to see which pumpkin weighed the most.

Local growers in Seattle brought their biggest hauls to Georgetown Saturday for the Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

Growers brought pumpkins that topped several hundred pounds, in pursuit of the largest, heaviest pumpkin.

Joel Holland won with a pumpkin weighing a whopping 1,713 pounds. Holland’s pumpkin will be scooped, scorched, and filled with Elysian pumpkin beer. It will be on display next weekend at the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival.

The weigh-off was commissioned by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, which encourages people around the world to grow giant pumpkins as a hobby.
