Local Couple gets engaged and married on same day

It's what you dream about as a kid.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) --  Most kids dream about their wedding day; the colors of the ceremony; what they'll wear, and what they'll experience during the day.

For Alfred Duncan, known widely as "Black Boo" and his wife Sherrell, it's a day the two will never forget.

The couple was engaged and married all on Saturday.

The surprise wedding after the proposal took weeks to pull-off.

"I knew all of the things...that she would want. We talked about it," said Duncan as he held his wife's hand and smiled widely.

The two also made the decision to practice abstinence for nine months prior to getting married.

The Duncans said it helped them focus on really getting to know one another.

"You can actually make love out of some kind of argument. We were forced to deal with each other," he explained.

Their love story is going viral and they've made numerous television and radio appearances, including Joe Clair's morning show on WPGC 95.5.

Sherell admits getting to the alter wasn't easy but it was well worth the hard work and effort.

"I broke up with him 567-times before we actually got together," she said laughing.

"I would encourage all of my sisters and all of my brothers to try [love] and see how God will work in your relationship."
