METAIRIE, La. - A local bridal store abruptly closed its doors without explanation.
Now, brides and bridal parties haven't been able to get in touch with anyone about the dresses they've ordered and paid for.
Randie Andrews is getting married in about six weeks and has been busy planning and preparing. However, on Tuesday, news came she was not expecting.
"It still doesn't feel real," she said. "There are so many emotions going on right now I don't know what to do."
The dresses for her five bridesmaids, mother, and flower girl were all ordered at Linda Lee Bridal and Boutique. The only problem is, it seems it's no longer in business.
"Actually I had a 12 p.m. appointment at Linda Lee's for the the Mother of the Bride dress," said Randie's mother, Laurie. "And when I arrived the store was closed. However, there were people in the store who looked like a couple of workers, and I tried to go in for my fitting but they said we're closed today. I asked them about the dresses that are paid for, if there was any way I could get my dress and get it altered by someone else and I was told they couldn't do anything at that time."
There was no explanation, just a sign on the door that reads: "Due to family emergency, closed until further notice."
"I just don't know," said Laurie. "We don't know what to do from here. I've called the store multiple times and have not gotten any answer."
It's bad news, especially for those who have upcoming weddings.
"I talked to one girl outside Linda Lee who's standing in a wedding this weekend and had no idea what was going on," Andrews said. "We had to explain what we knew so I know I'm not the only one."
Several have posted to Facebook demanding answers, but with no response.
One girl writes: "So, you mean to tell me that you've been accepting money from my bridesmaid's and myself (bride) only to close your doors without notification! I want to know where ... is my and my bridal party's money? How trifling can you be to ruin your mother's name and business?"
Another customer writes: "Has your store shut down?!! You could let your customers know what is going on since we have dresses there or need alterations!!! What a way to run a business....."
Even the store's voicemail says nothing out of the ordinary, only saying to call back during store hours. Like many, the Andrews are empty-handed, furious and are left with questions.
"I just wish someone from the store would've contacted us and let us know what we can do, who else we can talk to," said Randie.
They also ask the dresses they've ordered and paid for are given to them.
"How do we obtain the dresses paid for? What do we do with ones on order? What do we do with the ones that need fitting that we still owe half on? We're willing to pay, there's just no one there to answer the door or phone," said Laurie.
"I'm hoping that maybe they'll contact me, they'll give me the dresses I wanted and love," said Randie. "If not, I'll have to pick out new ones, take a loss, I'm not sure what to do."
