LIST: Flooding, water rescues in PG County

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County Fire and EMS crews conducted about two dozen water rescues Thursday after heavy rain hit the area.

The flooding started around 9:30 a.m. after a warning from the National Weather Service. Officials say two dozen homes were displaced in Berwyn Heights, the hardest hit area.

Officials say occupied vehicles stalled in high water in the following locations:

  • Central Ave at Watkins Park Dr in Largo - 2 occupied vehicles stranded in high water. A tree is on top of one of the cars.
  • East West Highway and Taylor Road - 1 rescue. No injury.
  • Kenilworth Ave and Rittenhouse St
  • Baltimore Ave and East West Highway
  • 8900 block of 59th Avenue in Berwyn Heights
  • 6800 block of Dartmouth Ave

In the 4600 block of Tuckerman St in Riverdale, police say two dogs tied up in a flooded backyard were rescued by firefighters.

Flooding occurred in Hyattsville, College Park and Berwyn Heights. Police are encouraging residents to stay indoors if possible.

Mark Brady with PGFD says the heaviest hit area with homes and roads flooded was the 8900 block of 59th Avenue in Berwyn Heights.

University of Maryland police report that Paint Branch Parkway underneath the railroad tracks was flooded.
