Woman dies after 2-alarm townhouse fire in Laurel

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Howard County police say a woman injured in a house fire on Thursday in Laurel has died.

Police identified the woman as 50-year-old Kimberly Ann Murphy-Smith.

The two-alarm fire broke out at approximately 5:15 a.m. Thursday in the 9500 block of Canterbury Riding. Fire officials say firefighters found Murphy-Smith inside the home and she was transported in critical condition to Laurel Hospital.

There were no other injuries, according to officials.

Officials say flames caused minor damage to a neighboring townhouse, which was vacant.

The fire was brought under control around 6 a.m.

At this time it appears accidental, report police.
