Teens charged with arson for classroom trailer fire

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Four teenage boys were charged with arson after a fire at a temporary classroom in Laurel.

According to Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department spokesperson Mark Brady, three 13-year-olds and one 15-year-old boy were charged last Friday with 1st Degree Arson, 2nd Degree Arson, 1st Degree Malicious Burning, and 2nd Degree Malicious Burning for the fire at Derefield Run Elementary School in June.

Brady says that firefighters responded to a trailer being used as a classroom at the school the night of June 30. Investigators later determined that the fire was set intentionally.

If found guilty, the charges carry maximum penalties that could potentially keep the boys in a juvenile facility until their 21st birthdays, says Brady.
