Nearly 90 escape with no injuries after explosion at Md. Olive Garden

Fire investigators are working to find out what caused an explosion at an Olive Garden restaurant in Laurel.

LAUREL, MD (WUSA9) - An electric panel explosion left significant damage and injured two people at an Olive Garden in Laurel, Md., officials said.

Prince Georges County Fire and EMS said the explosion happened in the back of the restaurant located at 14650 Baltimore Avenue.

The manager told authorities that the electric panel started crackling and then blew up. Debris flew hundreds of feet ending up near Laurel Lake, officials said.

Fifteen employees and 70 guests got out safely. Officials said one employee had a back injury and another had hearing issues. No one else was injured in the explosion. 

Fire investigators are working to find out what caused an explosion.

Officials continue to investigate.
