Man arrested for stealing $20.5K from bank

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police have arrested a man who stole more than $20,000 from a bank in Laurel.

Police say Robert C. Williams, 52, robbed the PNC Bank at 390 Main Street on Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. He is charged with robbery and numerous traffic offenses.

Police say the suspect was identified by various customers and employees, and he fled into Howard County during a pursuit. The suspect wrecked his vehicle on Thunder Hill Road at Twin Knolls Road, where he exited and fled on foot. Police apprehended him a few blocks away.

A backpack containing the stolen $20,650 was recovered in the vehicle.
