Laurel American Legion lot closed due to flooding

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) --The American Legion lot in Laurel will be closed until further notice due to flooding, authorities said Sunday night.

Parking capacity will be reduced by at least 40 percent. Authorities said the closure is due to anticipated severe flooding of the Patuxent River.

Parking will more than likely no longer be available at Laurel after the departure of Train 845 at 6:50 a.m., authorities said. Drivers are asked to not park in any spaces that are blocked off by yellow police tape.

Laurel passengers are advised to allow extra time to drive to Savage or or Muirkirk stations. Laurel tickets are accepted at either station at no additional cost and there is plenty of parking available, authorities said.

Directions to both stations are listed below:

--Savage is located off Route 32 at Dorsey Run Road. Coming east on 32, turn right at the top of the exit ramp, go about ¼ mile, and turn left into the station.

--To get to Muirkirk, drive south on Route 1, about 6 miles south of Laurel. You will pass the station on your left. Go under the overpass and turn right on Muirkirk Meadows Road. Go about ½ mile and turn right onto Muirkirk Road. Cross the bridge over Route 1 then turn left into the station.
