Rash of BB gun shootings in Montgomery Co.

A shooter is on the loose in Montgomery County.

GERMANTOWN, MD (WUSA9) - Montgomery County Police believe someone is shooting up businesses and buses with a BB gun, and the suspect is still on the loose.

Damage reports have been coming in since late September. Police say most of them are from the Germantown area of Montgomery Co.

The Mattress Warehouse in Germantown Square Shopping Center was hit two different times. WUSA9 found three indents in three different windows.

The Dairy Queen in the shopping center also was hit three different times. Inside, an employee showed us a shattered glass door and window.

So far, there are at least 20 reports of BB gun shootings in the county.

“Get a life, that’s all I can say,” laughed a Dairy Queen employee.

In early November, Maryland State Police said someone with a BB or pellet gun shot out five windows, including one on a bus on I-270.

“They could cause some serious damage,” said Officer Rick Goodale.

He said they haven’t received a report in two weeks, but that doesn’t mean the BB gun spree is over.

"Some businesses didn't even bother to report it to us,” Goodale said. “Detectives were going out talking to businesses and found out after-the-fact that their windows had been broken out as well, and they had already replaced the window. They just didn't feel it was significant enough to call police to report. But you know, it is significant and we need to know about it.”

Officials at Montgomery County Department of Transportation said they haven’t been able to catch an image of the suspect or suspects on the Ride On buses because the incidents are happening in the dark, at about 8 p.m.
