76-year-old Gaithersburg woman fatally struck by car

GAITHERSBURG, MD. (WUSA9) - A 76-year-old woman from Gaithersburg is dead after being hit by a car Tuesday evening, Montgomery County police said. 

The incident happened around 7:56 p.m. in the area of Muddy Branch Road and Harmony Hall Road in Gaithersburg, authorities said. 

When crews got to the scene they found the woman suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries. 

The investigation shows that Svetlan Bychkova, 76, was walking across the southbound lanes of Muddy Branch Road when she was hit by a black 2006 Lexus ES 330. A 27-year-old Gaithersburg woman was driving the car. She remained at the scene of the accident. 

The crash remains under investigation, police said. 

Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.
