Frederick police start wearing body cams

FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Frederick police will start wearing 18 body worn cameras effective Tuesday, authorities announced.

There will be three cameras on each patrol squad, according to Chief Ed Hargis. Authorities said the cameras will be a part of the uniform.

“The Frederick Police Department Body Worn Camera Program provides another tool to coincide with our already in place community engagement efforts. We are focused on continued positive community relationships, transparency and trust with those that we serve,” Chief Ed Hargis.

“We have confidence that our officers are doing the right thing every day and that the use of these cameras will highlight the level of professionalism that our officers display during our daily interactions with our community.”
