Robbery victims fight back, aid police in arrest

FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police say a group of people fought off two robbery suspects and aided police in making two arrests late Sunday in Frederick.

Officers were called to a business in the 1000 block of W. Patrick Street for a report of a robbery in progress at 10:35 p.m. Sunday. While en route, police say they learned the victims and suspects had left the scene and were now in the area of Danberry Drive.

Further investigation revealed that two suspects approached a group of people outside of the W. Patrick Street business and announced a robbery, police say. As the suspects began going through the pockets of the first victim, the second victim resisted the robbery and began to struggle with the suspects.

Another bystander called a third party out of the business who aided in driving off the attackers, police say.

The suspects fled the scene, but one of the victims and the subject who came to his aid followed the suspects in their own vehicle and observed them go to a residence on Danberry Drive, police say. They watched and reported the location to responding police officers who found and arrested the suspects with no further incident.

Mark Andrew Ferguson, of the 1300 block of Danberry Drive, is charged with 2 counts each of Attempted Strong Armed Robbery and 2nd Degree Assault.

William Lee Childs, of the 15000 block of Mahogany Drive in Gaithersburg, is charged with 1 count each of Attempted Strong Armed Robbery and 2nd Degree Assault.
